A couple reviews from the newsletter of the Golden Link Folk Singing Society in Rochester on a show Andy and Ernie played in July, 2009:
“A father-son duo of folkies with a great blues sound…They pick and sing with authority.”
Allen Hopkins
“Their guitar work is versatile and intricate…They take turns leading guitar and vocals, using voices that blend like family. If you see their names anywhere, go see them.”
Sue Hengelsberg
From a feature article on our music in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle:
“Ernie and Andy Lawrence . . . do their best to keep alive the tradition of American roots music . . . and when they write one of their own, they’re killers.”
Jeff Spevak (Music Critic – Rochester Democrat and Chronicle
A review of our recently released CD:
“The dozen songs range from field hollers through W. C. Handy to Al Kooper, blues, swing, folk, with half the songs coming from Ernie and Andy themselves. Father and son are both fine song writers, and their material stands up well in comparison to standards like Hesitation Blues. As I listen to Ernie’s Alone In Love I can imagine Ella Fitzgerald singing scat on the break. The title track follows, a wonderful murder ballad. The CD is recorded by Gary Holt from Mt. Morris, and captures the vitality of their live performances. Be sure to pick one up.”
